Frequently asked questions

What binding type is right for my booklet?

Saddle-stitch (two staples along the spine) is the standard for 8–64 pages. It's economical, lays flat when open, and holds up well in normal use. Perfect binding (glued flat spine, like a paperback) is better for 48+ pages and gives a more polished look when the booklet sits on a shelf or rack. Page count for saddle-stitch must be a multiple of 4.

What paper stock should I use?

For full-color booklets, 80lb Gloss Text for the interior and 80lb or 100lb Gloss Cover for the cover is the professional standard. If you need a matte look, 80lb Matte Text is available. For a truly premium feel (event programs, annual reports, high-end catalogs), pair 100lb Gloss Text interior with 100lb Gloss Cover.

Does my page count have to be a specific number?

For saddle-stitch binding, yes. Total page count must be a multiple of 4 (8, 12, 16, 20, etc.). This is a physical constraint of how sheets fold. If your content runs 14 pages, you'll need to either add 2 pages of content or leave 2 pages blank. Our design review will flag this before printing if your count is off.

What's the minimum quantity?

Our minimum is 50 booklets. Most NJ clients order 100–500 for event programs and catalog distribution, 500–2,000 for product catalogs and annual reports. Large quantities benefit from offset press pricing. Ask us for a quote if you need 1,000+.

What file format do you need?

PDF is preferred. 300 DPI, CMYK, with 0.125" bleed on all pages. Pages should be submitted as single pages (not as spreads). Include cover and inside cover as separate pages. Our free design review checks page sequence, gutter margins, spine width, and bleed before any sheets go through press.

How long does printing take?

5–7 business days after proof approval. Booklets require additional binding and finishing time beyond flat printing. Rush is available for smaller quantities. Call us at 908.232.7770.

How much do booklets cost?

L&B Printing booklets start at approximately $120 for 50 saddle-stitched 8-page booklets on 80lb Gloss Text with a 100lb Gloss Cover. Pricing scales with page count, paper stock, and binding type. Perfect-bound booklets cost more than saddle-stitch at equivalent quantities. Every order includes free shipping and a free design review, including a page sequence and gutter margin check.

Why order booklets from L&B instead of an online printer?

L&B Printing has been producing booklets, catalogs, and event programs for NJ businesses and organizations since 1974. Booklet print errors (wrong page sequence, insufficient gutter margin, spine cracking, misaligned pages) are expensive to discover after binding. Our free design review checks every one of these points before a single sheet goes through press. That's 50 years of preventing the reprints that kill timelines and budgets.

What if something is wrong with my order?

The L&B Promise: if we make a printing error on our end, we'll reprint your order at no charge. In practice, it rarely gets that far. Our free design review process catches virtually every issue before we go to press. We stand behind every job. Call us at 908.232.7770 if you ever have a concern.
